As part of the PICHA #BalanceForBetter Series, we get to know Emmah Nzioka aka Coco Em (@coco.emmah) – a Nairobi-based Dj, photographer, cinematographer and artist.Why is #BalanceforBetter important to you?I believe in equal opportunity for women, so that they can get the opportunities to empower and uplift themselvesWhat do you enjoy most about your job?I am 31, I’ve worked as a camera assistant on film sets of the movies Kati Kati and Sense 8, I was the DOP in last years OFDF production ‘Lusala” and I have performed at Boiler room, Nyege Nyege festival, World wide Fm Nairobi, Afro Punk festival Joburg, BBC 1xtra and I am set to play in Morocco later, with booking invitations to Tunisia, Paris, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy to follow this year. I have been exposed to many amazing audiences and I visited places I never thought I would thanks to my career as a Dj and I am extremely grateful for it.What can we do to create a more gender balanced work force?Create more opportunities for women.One piece of advice for young women interested in a career in your field?Be confident in yourself.
